Marina operators can benefit from having their Marina Insurance premiums reduced by 15% if they invest in boat lift training for their marina staff. Specialist Marine Insurance broker Insurance Risk & Claims Management (IRCM) have partnered with leading marine equipment suppliers The Pontoon & Dock Company in rewarding those marinas whose staff undergo the latter’s certified boat lift training on Roodberg Boat Handling Equipment.

James Burnell, Pontoon & Dock’s Roodberg specialist said “As the UK’s sole authorised Roodberg distributor we often receive requests for training from customers of Roodberg products. Having worked in boatyards and marinas for a number of years, and as a qualified RYA instructor, it was felt I should combine these skill sets to provide Roodberg training. I have received training from Roodberg themselves into how to best offer this, including attending a training session they delivered to a Dutch customer.

“Training on such equipment is a bit of a grey area in the UK under Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and whilst there are a few other organisations offering boat yard equipment training but I am the only Roodberg approved trainer – for their static cranes and hydraulic trailers.”

IRCM’s Mark Elcocks said “As our name suggests, strong Risk Management support is one of our core principles and we firmly believe that marine businesses who invest in minimising hazard should benefit from lower insurance premiums.

“We believe that certified training on boat lifts reduces risk to employees, property, vessels and third parties so we can offer a 15% premium discount across all policy sections of our Bowline Marine Trades Insurance product”.
